Introducing Fall 2023!
This September marks LO Rowing’s 28th season in the SW Portland region. For those of you who are new to the club as rowers or parents of rowers, we welcome you to our tight knit community dedicated to enjoyment of the rowing sport, appreciation of our natural open spaces, and a strong, inclusive community.
Our newsletter strives to update our members on club events, news and business; opportunities to help; and the successes of our teams (the best part!). While not all content pertains to everyone, we are a community, here to help all succeed and develop, which sets us apart from other clubs. We also hope that by sharing information about our varsity and collegiate rowing programs, middle school and novice rowers get a glimpse of the exciting things available to them in the future. For parents, there is fun for you, too. Over a third of adult masters rowers have youth or former youth rowers, and some even compete with their children in races.

We’ve transitioned to a transparent monthly pricing model to make it easier for existing and new rowers to budget, compare, and plan. Our pricing reflects the value of the programming LOCR offers: including the lowest coach-to-rower ratio in the Portland area! This provides for optimal safety and an ideal environment to foster the development of rowing skills.
This season we are offering Regatta Packages (separate packages available for masters and competitive varsity rowers). This set pricing allows for better participant budgeting and planning around costs associated with regattas and provides an overall discount. If you elect to purchase the Regatta Package, you will need to do so by September 11 (because it includes the upcoming Head of the Dog Regatta!).
Scholarships
Anyone young person who wants to row should be able to do so,
regardless of economic circumstance. To help make this possible, LOCR has instituted a scholarship fund in collaboration with Lake Oswego Parks and Recreation and the George Pocock Rowing Foundation (GPRF). Partial and full financial aid packages are available! Funds may be used to cover the cost of program registration, regatta fees, swimming instruction, team uniform and transportation.

Upcoming Events
Rookie Regatta - August 19th (Saturday)
This Saturday at 8:00 am, middle school, novice, and summer camper rowers are invited to our end-of-summer Rookie Regatta. This is a great opportunity to participate in racing in a low-key, informal, and fun atmosphere. Let’s see how the kids’ hard work this summer has paid off! Parents can also feel free to get their questions answered about competitive rowing and regattas that LOCR varsity rowers attend.
Parent Information Night - September 9th (Saturday)
On September 9 at 10:00 a.m. at Lake Oswego’s Row Studio, we will hold an informational session for all youth rowers, including returning varsity and novice rowers, middle school rowers and prospective employers. We will discuss what to expect from the fall season, training schedule, signup and form requirements, and regatta planning. We will hear from Head Youth Coach Rudy Ryback about his goals for the team and will be happy to answer questions from rowers and parents. Please plan to join this important meeting!
Masters Party - September 1st (Friday)
Masters will celebrate their accomplishments this year in their end-of-summer party on September 1 at 5:30 pm at Foothills Pavillion. We have a lot to talk about and hope you can join us.
