4/26-4/28 • Brentwood International Regatta • Mill Bay, BC • REMINDER: Youth Parents: Varsity/Novice rowers attending this event will require a Passport (or a Passport Card) to participate. Please apply ASAP on an expedited basis as passports take several weeks to process. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/need-passport/under-16.html. Each rower traveling without a parent will also need a parent permission letter for traveling into Canada; we have a template letter we will circulate for these purposes. Please also note that we will have a planning/informational meeting in the weeks prior to this event and we will need drivers for vans and luggage transport; stay tuned for details.

As previously communicated, LOCR has implemented a change to programming registration and fees. Beginning with spring season, memberships will be auto billed monthly. Payments during the current month are for the next month’s rowing (e.g., April rowing is billed in March). Please note that you can still register but cannot resume rowing until the following month. Members can cancel their membership at any time and finish the current month of rowing.
Youth Racing has Commenced!
As Coach Rudy likes to describe racing in March, “the spring weather comes in roaring like a lion and goes out like a gentle lamb.” This could not be more true this year. The youth experienced this first hand with challenging weather for their first scrimmage on March 2, but then enjoyed storybook conditions on Vashon Island this past weekend, March 16-17. We could not be more proud of LOCR youth’s tenacity and dedication as they race and rig/derig in poor weather conditions and endure early mornings and late nights.
The youth are also medaling early on this season! The Burton Beach Invitational Regatta this past weekend was a huge event: 32 events, 14 clubs, 299 entries—LOCR walked away with medals is no less than seven events! Please enjoy these snapshots of the past two regattas and celebrate these youth athletes who have had an excellent start to spring sprints.
We raised nearly $9,000 at LOCR’s Spring Ergathon and We’re Spending it on New Equipment!
Thank you to those LOCR members and parents that supported our fundraising efforts in February. We raised almost $9k in just one week, and LOCR is thrilled to share that new boats are on the way using this fundraising and last year’s auction proceeds. LOCR has determined that a new mid-weight quad and maas will be joining our fleet in the coming months. We also hope for additional equipment upgrades in the near future. LOCR is working hard to prioritize fundraising moneys for capital costs and programming fees for operational costs. If you care to learn more about LOCR’s fiscal goals and plans, please consider attending LOCR’s monthly board meetings.
Collegiate Team Shows Strong Performance at Lucky Duck Erg Sprints!
On March 10, 2024, our growing Collegiate team was proud to have represented and medaled in several events at the erg regatta hosted by University of Oregon’s team. Well done, collegiate athletes!
