What a Season!

If you feel like time flew by this fall, it might be because of how busy we were.  LOCR was at Port Angeles Coastal Row, Head of the Dog, Pink Ribbon Row, Tail of the Lake, American Fall Classic, Head of the Charles, Portland Fall Classic, Charlie Brown Regatta, Frostbite Regatta, and Head of the Lake.   Here are some summaries  of how we did:

American Lake: Gold: Men’s 4+, Men’s Open1x, Men’s Jr1x, Men’s Novice 4x, Men’s Novice 4+; Silver: Men’s Masters 1x, Men’s U17 4+; Bronze: Men’s Open 2-

Head of the Charles: LOCR had 5 entries and received our first-ever medal at HOCR in the Men’s Youth Singles—Owen Benincosa, 4th place!

Portland Fall Classic: LOCR placed second in overall points, having secured 7 Gold, 6 Silver, and 6 Bronze medals.

Frostbite: We went 4/4 with 1st place in Men’s Master 1x, Men’s Varsity 4+, Women’s Varsity 4+, and Men’s Novice 4x+

Head of the Lake: LOCR earned 2 Gold and 2 Silver medals at the premiere west coast head race.

We couldn’t have done it without all of the hard work by our coaches, team captains, and volunteers.  Special thanks to Nathan Skalsky for organizing regatta logistics this fall season.  Thanks also to Marc Weinstein, Rose Seitz, Doug Gerwitz, and Patrick Crowell who also spent long hours planning and volunteering to ensure a successful season.  A regatta a week is literally a full time job!

Winter Programming

In the next few weeks, our teams will move indoors. The water and air temperatures and river current make it unsafe for rowing during most of winter.

Rowing is a sport of technique, fitness, and strength—all of which we can improve upon with land training during the winter months.

The spring season starts out quickly with our first races in April. To hit the water rowing in the spring, we need to preserve the physical fitness we have now and hopefully become even more fit. Winter is a great time to cross train if you have a sport like basketball or swimming. But, if you don’t, LOCR offers a fun and challenging winter conditioning program at our row studio.

Winter training will be led by coaches Rudy and Kyle for the Youth, and coach Kyle for the Masters. We will also be offering Learn to Erg for those getting started. Sign up for winter programming today on Regatta Central.

LOCR is Recruiting!

LOCR is recruiting for Head Masters, RowFitness, and Learn to Row coaches (these positions may be combined). Please see job postings on LOCR website and consider sharing within your networks.

Boatswains Needed!

As we approach winter, it’s a great opportunity to get our fleet in order. Once the spring starts, we’ll be off to the races for nine months before we get another breather. We are looking for Masters, Youth, and parents who would be interested in helping with our winter fleet maintenance program. We need everything from organization, cleaning, minor repair, and painting. Join the #boat-maintenance channel in slack or talk to your coach about helping out!

Claim Your Things and Thank You to Our Volunteers!

Collegiate and Masters rowers have completed a significant amount of work tidying up our Row Studio over the past few weekends so we have a great place to workout and erg this winter. Thank you so much to those that have volunteered their time to make this space enjoyable. There will be more opportunities to pitch in, so please be on the lookout for communications about ways you can help make our club a great place to be.

We have a lot of clothes and water bottles in lost and found. Please claim your things before December 3. After December 3, all lost and found items will be donated.
